About me

I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Applied Linguistics and English as a Second Language at Georgia State University in Atlanta, GA. Before moving to Georgia, I was the director of the applied corpus linguistics unit at the University of Michigan English Language Institute where I managed the Michigan Corpus of Academic Spoken English (MICASE) and the Michigan Corpus of Upper-level Student Papers (MICUSP) projects from 2007 to 2011. Prior to that, I taught in Germany at the University of Cologne and at Leibniz University of Hanover from where I received my PhD in English Linguistics in 2004. I am also an affiliate faculty member in the Corpus Linguistics Lab of the University of Florida, and an associate member of the Centre for Literacy and Multilingualism at the University of Reading, UK. I serve on a range of editorial and advisory boards of professional journals and organizations, and am general editor of the Studies in Corpus Linguistics book series.
